ABOUT CATIE LYNCH, LCSW

Hi! I’m Catie Lynch, LCSW, your body image coach. I’m a licensed therapist and mother of two in the Chattanooga area. After years of dieting to “get healthy” I realized that engaging in disordered eating behaviors  simply wasn’t working for me. Time after time, I would tell myself “this time will be different,” and somehow it never was. This left me in a cycle of never-ending behaviors that made it difficult to live my life on a day-to-day basis. 

 

Now, my mission is to help other women that may be struggling with their body image to accept and understand that there is another way to live! I believe that feelings surrounding body image lie within the brain and having space to process those feelings while we are recovering is so important. In Befriend Your Body, you’ll be welcomed into a safe space to process, discuss, forgive and move forward with your life, free from dieting. 

You know that the never-ending diets you’ve been suffering through are making you miserable, but you’re terrified to lose that control over the foods you put in your mouth. You look longingly at the birthday cake when you go to parties knowing that you won’t allow yourself to eat it because of the guilt that you’ll feel afterwards. You know that you can’t go on living this way.

Throughout our time together we’ll be covering the following topics: 

  • Body Image 

    • The way you feel in your body can determine how your entire day goes from start to finish. Together, we’ll debunk common stereotypes and hold space for any feelings that come up during this topic. You’ll learn strategies to handle your next bad body image day and learn why those feelings are completely normal. This is a safe space for you to explore external triggers and reactions to events that make you feel activated.

  • Health At Every Size (HAES)

    • You can be healthy at your current size. Discover how to initiate joyful movement as a part of your daily routine simply because you want to feel good. We’ll explore healthy behaviors that you can start to incorporate into your life right now regardless of your size. You can finally leave the days of waiting until you’re a smaller size behind. 

  • Attaining Self Acceptance

    • The idea of loving yourself in your current body might seem a little out-there, but trust me it is possible. When we start to engage our bodies in behaviors that promote health, we start to feel better physically, then mentally. It may seem like a tenuous journey, but I’ll guide you through it every step of the way. 

  • Demons of Diet Culture 

    • You’ve decided that you’re done dieting for good. That won’t stop you from seeing commercials for diets on TV every time you turn it on, or hearing about the newest diet that your friend just started. You may be tempted to even diet with them because this time it might be different. We’ll work through the feelings that come up when these situations arise and hold space for the diets that we are saying goodbye to once and for all. 

  • Emotional and Physical Restriction 

    • When restriction is a regular part of your diet, you may find yourself caught in a never-ending binge + restrict cycle. What some people may not know though is that when you restrict yourself from feeling the emotions that are coming up for you after a bingeing episode, you could be holding yourself back from truly healing and moving on. We’ll discuss the different types of restrictions and methods for releasing them.

  • Relationship with Food 

    • Food may feel like the enemy however, you need to eat to stay alive. This can make healing your relationship with food feel impossible. Together, we’ll discuss strategies to help you begin to feel at peace with your food choices, eliminate the ideology around good + bad foods and truly release what has been holding you back.
